Wiedereröffnung - Sojus 7 - Monheim mit Koala Voice & Mondo Mashup

Da ein Teil unserer Redaktion die ersten 20 Jahre seines Lebens in Monheim verbrachte und dort nicht selten Gast in der damaligen alten Krautfabrik namens „Sojus 7“ war, lag es nahe, dass zur Wiedereröffnung des Sojus, der Samstagabend in Monheim verbracht wird. 

Bei Ankunft an der Kapellenstraße wurde unser Ur-Monheimer leider etwas enttäuscht. Ein riesen großer Betonklotz ersetzt nun den ehemals arg baufälligen Veranstaltungsort. Bitte nicht falsch verstehen. Wir sind begeistert was die Stadt Monheim für die Subkultur an dieser Stelle unternimmt, aber der klebrige Boden, das alte Gemäuer, Poster aus 35 Jahren Punk, HC, Metal Konzerten… Das hatte deutlich mehr Charme, in den Backsteinen der alten Krautfabrik. Sei es drum. Der neue Laden kommt mit einem unglaublich gutem Sound daher. Ca. 300 Gäste finden in der Halle Platz zum pogen oder Musik hören. In den oberen Etagen befindet sich nun ein Café, welches ebenfalls als Veranstaltungsort genutzt werden kann. Mehrere Ateliers schließen die letzte Etage ab. Definitiv ein Upgrade an der Kapellenstraße. Dennoch bleibt der Wunsch nach Nostalgie. 

Am Samstag konnte man zu freiem Eintritt, den Bands Koala Voice (Slowenien) und Mondo Mashup(Krefeld) lauschen. 

Beginnen wir mit Mondo Mashup. 

Das riesige Ensemble lässt die relativ große Bühne des neuen Sojus viel zu klein erscheinen. Musikalisch…ja, wo soll man die Musiker*innen verorten? Manchmal experimentell. Hin und wieder eine Spur zu chillig für unseren Geschmack. Ein bisschen Gogol Bordello konnten wir wahrnehmen. Aufjedenfall hat es dem Publikum gut gefallen. Die Künstler*innen beherrschen ihre Instrumente und genug tanzbare Phasen waren trotz chillig-experimentellen Pausen dabei. Die Krefelder*innen erwiesen sich als richtiger Live Act zum Abschluss des Samstags.

Koala Voice

Wow! Was für eine atemberaubende Band. Garage - Indie - Rock. Irgendwie mischen Koala Voice alles zusammen in einen Topf, rühren einmal um und raus kommt eine Mischung zwischen Arctic Monkeys und der jungen Patti Smith. Wir sind begeistert. Die charismatische Sängerin und das Tier am Bass, welchen man unter der langen Mähne nicht einmal richtig zu Gesicht bekam, haben es uns am meisten angetan. Die slowenischen Musiker*innen machen einfach nur Bock. Die Timeline der Eröffnungsfeier scheint jedoch zeitlich ziemlich genau getaktet gewesen zu sein und alle Zugabe-Rufe verliefen leider im Sande. Zieht euch das Album „Kangaroo‘s a neighboor“ rein. Wir hatten in diesem Jahr mit Berthold City und The Clockworks schon zwei absolute musikalische Highlights. Koala Voice ist nun die dritte Band in diesem Bunde. Exzellent!

Reopening – Sojus 7 – Monheim with Koala Voice & Mondo Mashup

As part of our editorial team spent the first 20 years of their life in Monheim and were frequent guests at the old cabbage factory called „Sojus 7“, it was only natural that on the occasion of the reopening of Sojus, Saturday evening should be spent in Monheim.

On arrival at the Kapellenstraße, our original Monheimer was unfortunately somewhat disappointed. A huge concrete block now replaces the formerly dilapidated venue. Please do not misunderstand. We are thrilled about what the city of Monheim is doing for subculture at this location, but the sticky floor, the old walls, posters from 35 years of punk, HC, metal concerts… That had a lot more charm in the bricks of the old Krautfabrik. But nevermind. The new place has an unbelievably good sound. There’s room for about 300 people for pogo-dancing or listen to music in the hall. On the upper floors there is now a café, which can also be used as a venue. Several art studios complete the last floor. Definitely an upgrade on Kapellenstraße. Nevertheless, the desire for nostalgia remains.

On Saturday, you could listen to the bands Koala Voice (Slovenia) and Mondo Mashup (Krefeld) for free.

Let’s start with Mondo Mashup.

The huge ensemble makes the relatively large stage of the new Sojus seem almost too small. Musically… where should one place the musicians? Sometimes experimental. Now and then a bit too chilled for our taste. We could sense a bit of Gogol Bordello. Anyway, the audience liked it. The artists are masters of their instruments and there were enough danceable phases despite the chill-experimental breaks. The Krefeld band proved to be a real live act to end the live-shows on Saturday.

Koala Voice

Wow! What a breathtaking band. Garage – Indie – Rock. Somehow Koala Voice mix everything together in a pot, stir once and out comes a mixture between Arctic Monkeys and the young Patti Smith. We are thrilled. The charismatic singer and the beast on the bass, which you couldn’t even really see under their long mane, did it for us the most. The Slovenian musicians are simply great. However, the timeline of the opening ceremony seems to have been timed quite precisely and all „We want more“-calls unfortunately came to nothing. Check out the album „Kangaroo’s a neighbour“. We have already had two absolute musical highlights this year with Berthold City and The Clockworks. Koala Voice is now the third band in this group. Excellent!
