Kunst und Pöhlerei

Am vergangenen Freitag wurden wir eingeladen. Zu einer Vernissage. In Bochum. 

Als die Nachricht von Gerrit Starczewski ins Haus flatterte, gab es eigentlich nicht sonderlich viel zu überlegen. Die Einladung zur Vernissage unter dem Titel „Gemälde auf Techno oder watt“ von VfL Jesus nahmen wir gerne an.

Zwischen Bergbau-Museum, Tierpark, Stadion und Rotlicht-Viertel, befindet sich das kleine Atelier in welchem die Ausstellung für geladene Gäste stattfinden sollte. Bereits bei Ankunft am Atelier sind wir aus dem Häuschen was die Diversität der Gäste betrifft. Skater trifft Punk, Punk trifft Ultra, Ultra trifft Schicki, Schicki trifft Ruhrpott-Proll, Ruhrpott-Proll trifft wiederum künstlerische Avantgarde und mitten drin VfL Jesus, B.A. von Westfalia Herne und Gerrit Starczewski. Letzterer ist der Ideengeber für all die abgefahrenen Aktionen. Wir berichteten jüngst über das Nacktfußball-Spiel in Herne. 

Das Publikum war nicht weniger bunt durcheinander gewürfelt, wie diese gemischte Tüte!

„Jeder Mensch ist ein Künstler“. Frei nach Joseph Beuys nimmt sich Kult-Fan VfL Jesus Pinsel und Farbe zur Hand und lässt zu wummernden Techno Beats seiner Kreativität freien Lauf. 

Das Ergebnis: Es ist alles dabei. Von Bildern welche an die Begabung eines Kindes erinnern, bis zu spannenden Farbverläufen die an die künstlerische Gestaltung von modernen Unternehmen erinnern. Fehlendes Talent würden wir nicht attestieren.

Viel wichtiger ist aber mit welcher ehrlichen und herzlichen Herangehensweise Jesus die Bilder auf die Leinwand bringt. „Ich mal einfach los“ sagt er auf die Frage was ihn gerade inspiriert. Weiter: „Ich sag immer: Jeder Mensch ist ein Künstler…“. Auf diesen Satz entgegnet Gerrit Starczewski mit dem berechtigten Einwand, dass dies ein Zitat von Joseph Beuys sei. Die Antwort von Jesus folgt sofort sofort:“Ja und?! Jetzt sag‘ ich dat aber, oder watt?!“

Der Hintergrund zum Start der Malerei ist fast schon romantisch. Vor ein paar Jahren stand der Film zu Gerrit Starczewski‘s Kult-Reihe „Pottoriginale“ kurz vor dem Aus. Interne Unstimmigkeiten und deren Klärung, führten Gerrit am Ende des Tages sogar bis zu Gericht. „Als ich also bei Gericht saß hab ich Jesus gefragt, ob er nicht vor dem Gebäude einfach auf mich warten kann und in der Zeit ein Bild malen würde. Jesus stimmte meiner Idee sofort zu. Der Gedanke daran wie Jesus draußen sitzt und für uns ein Bild malt, ließ mich einfach nur noch gut fühlen. Mir war sogar egal wie der Prozess endet.“

Es kam anders als Befürchtet. Gerrit konnte den Film weiter drehen, der Prozess endete zu seinen Gunsten und wenige Monate später erblickte sein nun fertiger Film das Licht der Welt. Ob das nun an der Kreativität von VfL Jesus lag, wissen wir nicht. Was wir allerdings wissen ist, dass die Kunst - ob man sie nun mag, oder nicht - aus dem Herzen des Ruhrpotts stammt.

Ehrlich - Authentisch - Echt

Dann mal viel Erfolg an die Schöpfer dieses spannenden Unterfangens….oder Watt?!

Last Friday we were invited. To a vernissage. In Bochum.

When Gerrit Starczewski message reached us, there wasn't really much to think about. We gladly accepted the invitation to the vernissage under the title "paintings on techno oder watt" by VfL Jesus.

In between mining museum, zoo, stadium and red light district, there's the small studio in which the exhibition for invited guests would take place. Upon arrival at the studio, we are already excited about the diversity of the guests. Skater meets Punk, Punk meets Ultra, Ultra meets in-crowds, in-crowds meet Ruhrdistrict-Bogan, Ruhrdistrict-Bogan meets again artistic avant-garde and in the middle VfL Jesus, B.A. of Westfalia Herne and Gerrit Starczewski. The latter is the idea generator for all the wacky actions. We recently reported on the naked soccer game in Herne.

"Every person is an artist". Loosely based on Joseph Beuys, cult fan VfL Jesus takes brush and paint to hand and gives free rein to his creativity to booming techno beats.

The result: A colorful potpourri of everything. From pictures that remind us of the talent of a child, to exciting color gradients which resemble the artistic design of modern companies. We wouldn't say there's a lack of talent.

But much more important is the honest and heartfelt approach with which Jesus puts the pictures on canvas. "I just go for it" he says,  when asked what inspires him at the moment. Further: "I always say: Every man is an artist...". Gerrit Starczewski responds to this sentence with the justified objection that this is a quote from Joseph Beuys. The answer of Jesus follows immediately: "Yes and? Now I say that, oder watt?!"

The background to the start of his painting is almost romantic. A few years ago, the film of Gerrit Starczewski's cult series "Pottoriginale" was about to be cancelled. Internal disagreements and their clarification, even brought Gerrit to court at the end of the day. "So when I was sitting in court I asked Jesus if he couldn't just wait for me outside the building and paint a picture in that time. Jesus immediately agreed to my idea. The thought of Jesus sitting outside and painting a picture for us, just made me feel good. I didn't even care how the case ended."

It turned out differently than suspected. Gerrit was able to continue shooting the film, the trial ended in his favor and a few months later, his now finished movie, was released. Whether this was due to the creativity of VfL Jesus, we do not know. What we do know is that the art - whether you like it or not - comes from the heart of the Ruhrdistrict.
