Auf die Ohren - Death Sells, Forbidden Wizards, Antillectual - "Café The Jack" Eindhoven

Das "Café The Jack" in Eindhoven wäre für uns schon ohne stattfindendes Konzert ein einziges Highlight. Wenn man um sich sieht, findet man im gesamten Laden immer wieder kleine, versteckte Highlights. Lemmy als Jesus, Blechschild-Tourplakate, eine Energy-Drink-saufende Mona Lisa. Die Decke ist geschmückt mit allem möglichen Zeugs. Ein Fahrrad (welches zugegebenermaßen etwas aus der Reihe fiel) hängt dort ebenfalls kurz hinter der Eingangstür. Freundliches Barpersonal und eine Auswahl an gefühlt einer Million Biersorten aus aller Welt, runden den positiven Eindruck ab. Der Laden befindet sich übrigens auf der angenehmen Party-Meilen-Variante Eindhovens, welche sich unserer Ansicht nach, jederzeit für einen bierseligen Kurztrip eignet. 

Zu den Bands:

Opener an diesem Abend waren Death Sells. Wir können gar nicht beschreiben, wie unfassbar gut wir die Combo fanden. Eine Sängerin mit prägnanter Stimme, ein grimmig dreinblickender Bassist (das scheint allen in die Wiege gelegt worden zu sein), ein wahnsinniger Gitarrist (der während des Songs zu uns kommt, um mit uns anzustoßen) und ein hervorragender Drummer. 

Die niederländischen Musiker*innen machen irgendwas zwischen experimenteller Grunge-Musik und fantastischem Punk. Für uns das absolute Highlight des Abends. Was für eine grandiose Show Death Sells geboten haben!!! Falls ihr das lest: Kommt nach Deutschland!

Zweite Band im Dreier-Bunde waren Forbidden Wizards. Sich selbst beschreiben die drei Musiker*innen mit: We make Punk. 

Das ist durchaus zutreffend, aber vielleicht auch nicht die ganze Wahrheit. 

Wir klären auf:

1. Die niederländische Band beherrscht ihre Instrumente ganz fantastisch.

2. Wenn es eine Mischung aus: die schnellste Musik, die ich jemals gehört habe und Punk geben würde, dann heißt das Genre vermutlich: Forbidden Wizards Punk

3. Wir waren hier zwiegespalten, was die Begeisterung betraf. Von „ist mir zu anstrengend“ bis „Wahnsinn! Ich finde die grandios!" war alles dabei!. Fairerweise muss man sagen, dass das Publikum komplett aus dem Häuschen war. 

4. Zählt man zu der „ist mir zu anstrengend“ Fraktion, lohnt sich ein Besuch dennoch. Die Sängerin kann so ziemlich alle Grimassen schneiden, die ein menschliches Gesicht hergibt und kommt unglaublich charismatisch rüber.

Last but noch least: Antillectual.

Da muss man eigentlich nicht viel sagen. Über die Band wurde auch in Deutschland schon in diversen Magazinen berichtet. Seit 21 Jahren existiert die niederländische Combo bereits. Auftritte mit Rise Against, Bad Religion oder Ignite bescheinigen das Erwartete: Die drei Jungs machen das, was sie machen sollen. Astreinen Melodic Hardcore spielen. Dass die Band politisch zudem klar Position gegen rechte Umtriebe wie die niederländische rechtsextreme PVV bezieht, ist nicht nur „nett“, sondern gut, wichtig und lässt uns einmal mehr hinhören! Danke für euer Engagement!

"Café The Jack" Eindhoven - 19.01.2024 - Death Sells, Forbidden Wizards, Antillectual 

"Café The Jack" in Eindhoven would be a highlight for us even without a concert taking place. If you look around, you can always find small, hidden highlights throughout the shop. Lemmy as Jesus, tin plate tour posters, a Mona Lisa drinking energy drinks. The ceiling is decorated with all sorts of stuff. A bicycle (which was admittedly a little out of place) also hangs there just behind the entrance door. Friendly bar staff and a selection of what feels like a million types of beer from all over the world round complete the positive impression. Incidentally, the pub is located in the pleasant party mile area of Eindhoven, which - in our opinion - is always suitable for a short beer-fuelled trip. 

About the bands:

The openers that evening were Death Sells. We can't describe how unbelievably good we found the combo. A singer with a distinctive voice, a grim-looking bassist (they all seem to have been born with it), an insane guitarist (who comes up to us during the song to toast us) and an excellent drummer. The Dutch musicians play something between experimental grunge music and fantastic punk. The were absolute highlight of the evening for us. What a great show Death Sells put on!!! If you're reading this: Come to Germany!

The second band in the trio were Forbidden Wizards. The three musicians describe themselves as follows: We make punk. 

That's quite true, but perhaps not the whole truth. 

Let us clarify:

1. the Dutch band have a fantastic command of their instruments.

2. if there was a mixture of: the fastest music I've ever heard and punk, then the genre would probably be called: Forbidden Wizards Punk

3. we were split here in terms of enthusiasm. From "It's too exhausting for me" to "Awesome! I think they're marvellous!" we had everything in our group! To be fair, it has to be said that the audience was completely blown away. 

4. if you belong to the "it's too exhausting for me" faction, it's still worth a visit. The singer can make pretty much every grimace a human face can produce and comes across as incredibly charismatic.

Last but not least: Antillectual.

There's not really much to say. The band has already been reported on in various magazines in Germany. The Dutch combo has been around for 21 years. Gigs with Rise Against, Bad Religion or Ignite confirm the expected: the three guys do what they are supposed to do. Playing pure melodic hardcore. The fact that the band also takes a clear political stance against right-wing activities such as the Dutch far-right PVV is not just "nice", but good, important and makes us listen once again! Thank you for your commitment!
